Ellen Sollod : An Intriguing Artist
There were four distinct types of artworks in this exhibition.
That is what intrigued me.It demonstrates Ellen Sollod’s experimental approach to photography
Above you see an overview of the installation. The large bw digital image below has a ghost image of the artist. the artist explained to us that she stood in front of the camera for part of 30 seconds, then the shutter went off and what appeared was this ghost image.
Flaneuse of course takes us back to the male flaneur of late 19th century, the idea of walking the streets of a city dabbling in this and that. In Sollods photographs the artist is invisible to others, a ghost that wanders freely. She has chosen particularly overbearing male buildings to set hersa telf in fronth9ough to9 declare there are no boundaries to what she can do.

Tete D’or
These are public art works from the Brightwater Treatment Plant by Ellen and other artists such as Buster Simpson in 2011.

It is included in my book Setting Our Heaers on Fire
The great contrast to the works on exhibit demonstrates Sollod’s versatility as an artist.
